Perspective drawing project for kids

Welcome to yet some other art project involving perspective. However! This project not only teaches children how to convey depth and space in cartoon, it likewise exposes them to the rich, fascinating culture of Aliens. Yous do believe in Aliens, don't you?

Materials:

  • watercolor paper
  • pencil
  • straight border
  • sharpie
  • watercolor paints

1. Using your pencil and straight edge, draw a horizontal line across the middle of the page. Draw a little dot smack dab in the eye of the line. This is chosen the vanishing point, which incidentally would make an excellent band name.

2. With your straight edge, draw two lines connecting the opposite corners, passing through the centre dot. These volition be your perspective lines.

3. Here'southward where it starts to become fun! Decide whether you want to make a route, a canal, a totally weird conflicting pathway, or something else in the bottom triangle. I fabricated what can just be described every bit a super-absurd futuristic walkway. Proceed in mind that the middle dot is the furthest indicate you can come across in the distance, and when things are in the distance, they announced smaller, closer together, and non in focus.

You'll notice my walkway lines and the alien rocks are closer together as they go back, and smaller.

I even began to draw my buildings. (I decided I wanted this to exist an urban alien scene.) Buildings are a swell way to show dramatic perspective, because they are geometric, so their lines will naturally point right back to the vanishing bespeak.

If y'all choose to draw buildings, start by drawing a horizontal line out to the perspective line to make the top side of the building. Angle the line down to follow the perspective line (this makes the acme forepart of the building.) Draw your two vertical parallel lines to form the sides of the buildings. (Did somebody say Math?) Continue with equally many buildings every bit you want or can fit.

4. Draw the rest of your fantastical scene, following the lines of perspective back for whatever elements you choose to include. Some ideas: trees, alien stone formations, a row of scary alien monsters, weird streetlights, alienmobiles. If yous choose to depict a effigy in the foreground, you can draw it from the waist upwardly and then it looks squeamish and shut. Next, go over all of your lines with a black thin Sharpie marker, and erase the pencil lines that are showing.

5. Now is time to add color. When you are painting, keep in listen again, that you tin can exist a little looser and softer as you get closer to the vanishing betoken. Also, await at my buildings. You'll discover I take made the color on the fronts of the buildings lighter where more sunday is shining, and so on the sides. (This is a bonus tip.)

Okay. I couldn't resist making a friendly conflicting, merely feel free to brand your ghoulish and gastly. I'k thinking older kids might want to use this project to create a zombie painting, full of carnage and blood….
